  Burberry
Thomas Burberry, at the age of 21, opened a small outfitters shop in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England. By 1870, after earning a loyal following because of his commitment to quality and innovation, the shop had grown into an emporium. He developed Gabardine, the breathable, weatherproof and tearproof fabric in 1880. He also developed the Tielocken, the predecessor of the trench coat. In 1920, the famous Burberry Check, registered as a trademark, was introduced as a lining to the trench coat in the 1920s. Burberry continues to be an internationally recognized luxury brand.
